Signs That You Have a Severe Dental Infection

It is important to make sure that you are making an appointment to be seen by your dentist when you first suspect that you have something going wrong with your teeth. If you don't, you may end up developing an infection. And if that infection is not treated soon enough, it can spread and cause serious problems for you. If you have not been able to get to the dentist as early as you would have hoped, you might want to make sure that you are well aware of the signs that you have a severe dental infection.

You Have Spot Pus in Your Mouth When Looking in the Mirror

You might have a lot of pus pouring out of various spots in your mouth, and you might not realize it because it mixes in with your saliva and then you swallow it. Therefore, you will want to spend a little time looking at the inside of your mouth with the use of a large mirror and a lot of bright light. Check out the condition of your teeth, your gums, the inside of your cheeks, and even under your tongue. If you see pus coming out, then you need immediate dental treatment. Even if it only looks like a little bit of pus, it is still serious. Also, do not assume that you were able to successfully clean out all of the pus. No matter how much you squeeze or cleanse your mouth, there will be pus inside of your mouth that is not able to be reached.

Your Teeth Are Throbbing Even When You Aren't Eating

It might feel like your teeth can be seen visibly throbbing, but it just feels that way. It is the nerves inside of your teeth that are throbbing, not the tooth itself. However, when you get to the point where you feel a lot of throbbing in your mouth, you are going to want to contact a dentist as soon as possible. It could be a sign that you have some damage to one or more of your teeth, and that there is an infection brewing.

Should you find that you may have a severe infection, you will want to get in touch with your dentist right away. Explain to the receptionist that you believe that you may have a serious infection to see if she can find an appointment for you within the next day or so. If you cannot be seen by your regular dentist right away, it would be best to locate the nearest emergency dental office and seek treatment there.
